Agartala, July 24, 2024: In a decisive operation, a joint task force comprising state police and the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested two Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into Indian territory near the Srinagar area under South Tripura district. The incident took place yesterday around 7 PM.
The detained individuals have been identified as Md Ibrahim, 45, from Kabir Hut village in Noakhali district, and Jamal Miah, 22, from Akbar Shah in Chittagong district. Following a preliminary inquiry, both men were handed over to state police for further legal action.
This operation underscores the BSF’s intensified efforts to curb illegal migration from Bangladesh. The BSF has increased surveillance and strengthened coordination with other agencies to secure the border and prevent unlawful entries.
Meanwhile, GRP police station OC Tapas Das stated that the police, acting on a tip-off, were informed about the arrival of four Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala railway station.
Acting on this intelligence, the GRP conducted a raid at the station. During the operation, four individuals were questioned and subsequently confessed to entering Tripura illegally. The arrested individuals are identified as Shahidul Islam, Azbar Ali, Mohinur Islam, and Akram Haque, all residents of Bangladesh.
OC Das added that a specific case has been filed against them, and they were produced before the court on Wednesday with a request for police remand.
