Agartala, July 25, 2024: As a part of the initiative by N. F. Railway to further improve the local economy, meetings and interactions are held time to time with traders and other business communities. N. F. Railway has set up Business Development Units (BDUs) at all the five Divisions and also at Zonal Head Quarters level to increase the freight transportation volume. These Business Development Units (BDUs) are having frequent interactions with Trade & Industry players within their respective areas to find new traffic for movement by train. Railways being a faster and cheaper mode of transport than the road ways, this will boost the local economy by making larger markets across the country.
In this context, the Divisional Railway Manager along with senior officials of Lumding division hold a meeting with traders on 24th of July, 2024 at Lumding. In the meeting 33 traders participated to discuss various issues such as truck shortages, labour availability, placement of goods loaded railway rakes, condition of the goods yard and concerns regarding the imposition of penal Demurrage Charge & Wharfage Charge, for late clearance of goods wagons.
In the meeting N. F. Railway officials informed the traders about various activities and facilities that are being made available for the improvement of the local economy by providing cheaper mode of transportation through railways. Railway is also the most eco-friendly mode of transportation. Handling of goods traffic, feasibility for transportation of automobile traffic and other commodities and their benefit were thoroughly discussed during the meeting. It may also be mentioned here that due to the initiative of the Business Development Unit (BDU), recently 20 wagons of bamboo were transported from Dhemaji in Assam to Amlai in Madhya Pradesh for the first time by Tinsukia Division of N. F. Railway.
It may be stated that, N. F. Railway is making all out efforts to enable ease of doing business and to provide better facilities to its customers and various stake holders specially traders for the benefit of local economy.
