Security Forces Uncover Cache Of Weapons And Ammunition In Manipur’s Kakching And Kangpokpi

Imphal, July 26: In the early hours of 26 July 2024, a significant search operation was carried out at Kharungpat under Hiyanglam Police Station of Kakching district. The operation commenced around 4:30 am, involving a coordinated effort by multiple security teams.

Based on reliable intelligence from the 33 Assam Rifles, the operation was led by Sub. S. Birla Singh, OC/Commando unit, Kakching, and involved a combined team comprising a column of the 33 Assam Rifles, a platoon of A-126 Battalion, and a team from Hiyanglam Police Station. The operation was supervised by Shri Binoy Chongtham, MPS Addl. SP (Ops) Kakching, under the overall supervision of Shri Thokchom Vikramjit Singh, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Kakching District.

During the search, a variety of weapons and ammunition, suspected to have been concealed by unknown miscreants, were discovered in a secluded area near some bushes. The items were found packed in a rice gunny bag and a white plastic bag marked “golden tea”. The items recovered includes one carbine with magazine, one Bolt Action 303 Rifle, one 2” smoke shell, one SLR magazine, one INSAS LMG magazine, five HE Grenades, ten live rounds of 303 ammunition, four live rounds of AK Rifle ammunition, six live rounds of 9 mm ammunition, five live rounds of SLR ammunition, seven rounds of 5.56 INSAS ammunition. A case has been registered at Hiyanglam Police Station, and an investigation is underway.

In a separate case, search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the search operations on Thursday, recovery items include one Pt. 22 Rifle with Magazine, one single Bore Barrel Rifle, two 9mm Pistols with one Magazine, one 7.65mm Pistol with Magazine, one HE-36 Hand Grenade w/o detonator, one Chinese Grenade, three Live ammunition rounds from Govajang, Kangpokpi district.
