Agartala, July 30, 2024: A tragic road accident took place on Assam-Agartala National Highway No. 8 in front of Shanicherra Primary Health Center under Churaibari Police Station in North Tripura District resulting in one fatality and three injuries.
The incident took place around 2:30 AM on Tuesday night when an empty dumper transporting coal collided head-on with a truck loaded with rice. The collision was so severe that the front of both vehicles was completely crushed. The dumper, a 16-wheeler bearing number TR01AU-1908, and the truck, a twelve-wheeler bearing number AS01LC-6568 were involved in the accident.
Local residents awakened by the loud noise rushed to the scene and found the drivers and co-drivers trapped in the wreckage. Dumper driver Montaj Ali, truck driver Muktadur Hossain and truck co-driver Rohit Ahmed were rescued with the help of locals and taken to Shanicherra Primary Health Center. However, co-driver Sajul Islam remained trapped inside the twisted dumper.
Firefighters from the Premtala fire office arrived promptly but struggled to extricate Sajul Islam. After about one and a half hours, he was finally rescued and taken to Shanicherra Primary Health Center. Dr. Arijit Das, the duty doctor, treated the injured and referred all four to Silchar Hospital due to their critical condition.
Tragically, Sajul Islam succumbed to his injuries en route to Silchar. The condition of dumper driver Montaj Ali remains critical, while the other injured are receiving treatment at Silchar Hospital.
Churaibari police have launched an investigation into the accident. The case has been registered as a road accident, and further inquiries are ongoing.
