Sikkim Woos Investors To Boost Industrial Sector

Gangtok, August 1: The Sikkim government has initiated a series of investor meetings to attract investment and boost the industrial sector in the state.

In a significant development, Tshering Thendup Bhutia, Hon’ble Minister, Commerce & Industries Department and Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, met with investors from Delhi and Bangalore on July 30, 2024.

The meeting, attended by senior officials, including the Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, and the Director, Commerce & Industries, discussed various investment opportunities in the state.

KEY INVESTMENT PROPOSALS

– Air connectivity: Establishment of air connectivity from Pakyong to Bagdogra and Delhi with US-based small aircraft operator, BLADE.

– Brewery: Setting up a brewery in Sikkim to manufacture beer from barley, wheat, rice, and maize, with an investment of Rs. 70 crore and employment generation of 100 manpower/day.

– Water ATMs: Installation of water vending machines at multiple locations to provide purified water at a minimal price, promoting clean environment and entrepreneurship.

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting investors and strengthening the industrial sector to create employment opportunities for local youths.

The investors expressed interest in the state’s conducive business environment and infrastructure, including the well-maintained Pakyong airport. Detailed proposals are expected soon, paving the way for new investments in Sikkim.
