Assam’s Mayong To Host Inaugural Magic Festival, Reviving Ancient Traditions

Assam is set to unveil its first-ever magic festival, the “Mayong Indrajal Magic Festival,” scheduled for August 18 in the historic town of Mayong, Morigaon. This unique event aims to celebrate and preserve the rich magical heritage of Mayong, a region renowned for its ancient traditions of magic and sorcery.

The festival will feature 101 magicians from Mayong, including several who have dedicated decades to perfecting their craft. Attendees can expect to witness a variety of traditional and contemporary magic tricks. Among the anticipated performances are illusions such as flying eggs, rejoined bamboo, and rice transforming into flattened rice, showcasing the diverse skills of local magicians.

The day-long event will commence with a grand cultural procession that will highlight Mayong’s age-old magical practices, local arts, and distinctive cultural elements. This procession will set the stage for the performances and provide visitors with an immersive experience into Mayong’s magical heritage.

Morigaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma announced that the festival is intended to be an annual event. He stated that the festival aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Mayong while offering new opportunities for tourism in the region.

In addition to the local magicians, the festival will feature performances by Assam’s renowned magician “Jadu Samrat” Bikram, who is known for his exceptional skills and contributions to the field of magic.

The Mayong Indrajal Magic Festival is expected to attract visitors from various regions and contribute to the cultural and economic development of Mayong. The festival will serve as a platform to showcase the magical traditions of the area and provide a new avenue for cultural tourism.
