Agartala, August 09, 2024: Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Thursday expressed deep concern over attempts to sow discord between different communities. Speaking at a ‘World Adivasi Day’ event organized by the Pradesh Congress Committee, Barman emphasized the importance of unity and awareness to protect the country’s indigenous populations.
“The miscreants in Gandacherra aim to create a wall of distrust between castes and communities,” Barman declared, urging the audience to reject these divisive efforts. He highlighted the significance of the day, noting, “There are 476 million indigenous people living in 90 countries worldwide. Their lives are simple, and it is our duty to protect them.”
In a solemn address at the Muktadhara auditorium here in Agartala city on Thursday, Barman explained that the event was organized to advocate for the rights of tribal communities across India. “We must increase awareness among them to safeguard their interests,” he added.
Referring to a recent tragic incident, Barman recounted, “Parameshwar Reang was killed while trying to save a Bengali boy from an attack. He committed no crime, yet he lost his life. This act of violence was an attempt by the perpetrators to create a wall of distrust between different communities.”
Barman was firm in his stance that criminals should not be identified by their religion or caste. “Perpetrators never have a religion or caste. Their only identity is that they are criminals,” he stated. He concluded with an appeal to the people of Gandacherra, urging them to resist any attempts to divide their community: “Let us not build a wall of distrust among ourselves.”
