Guwahati, August 10: In a significant operation, Assam police seized drugs worth over Rs 120 crore in Karimganj and Cachar districts of the Barak Valley on Friday, arresting five persons in connection with the recovery.
A joint operation led by IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, involving the Special Task Force (STF) and district police, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs from a 12-wheeler truck in Karimganj district. The contraband included 3,50,000 Yaba tablets and 1.3 kg of heroin, hidden in 100 soap cases, valued at around Rs 115 crore.
In a separate operation in Cachar district, police seized 18,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 5.5 crore at Kathal Road in Silchar.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police efforts, saying, “These major seizures will firmly boost our war against drugs. Good job @assampolice.”
