Imphal, Aug 12: The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of meting out “stepmotherly treatment” to the North East region. The criticism comes in the wake of a devastating bomb blast in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Saturday, which claimed the life of Charubala, wife of former MLA Yamthong Haokip.
Assam Congress took to social media to express its outrage, questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s priorities and Home Minister Amit Shah’s urgency in addressing the issue. “PM Narendra Modi can fly to foreign nations but doesn’t get time to visit one of his states. Home Minister Amit Shah, how many more need to die before you take up this issue seriously? Why this stepmotherly behaviour towards NorthEast?” the party tweeted.
The bomb blast, which occurred at Haokip’s residence, has sent shockwaves across the region. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with police currently investigating the incident. The Congress party’s criticism highlights the growing concern over the government’s response to the region’s security and development needs.
