Imphal, Aug 12: In a significant development, Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar has assumed command of the Indian Army’s elite Spear Corps, taking on the formidable challenge of managing the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. The conflict has claimed over 200 lives in the past year, and Pendharkar’s extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations is expected to bring a new dimension to the Army’s efforts in the region.
Pendharkar, who succeeds Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi, now assigned as the commandant of the Army War College in Mhow, brings 34 years of illustrious service to his new role. His career includes stints in Jammu and Kashmir and commanding formations along the Line of Control. He has also held key staff appointments, including Director General of the Territorial Army and postings at the Military Operations Directorate.
The change in command comes at a critical time, with the situation in Manipur remaining volatile. Pendharkar’s leadership and expertise are expected to play a crucial role in restoring peace and stability to the region.
