Guwahati, Aug 17: In a significant blow to the Congress party in Assam, former state minister and senior leader Akon Bora has resigned from two key party positions.
Bora, who played a crucial role in establishing the Congress’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC), has stepped down from the PAC and the party’s election committee.
His resignation comes after his son, Manas Bora, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading to speculation about Akon Bora’s future in the Congress.
The development has sparked concerns about internal tensions within the party and its implications for the Congress’s strategy in Assam.
Akon Bora submitted his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge, citing “growing discomfort” after his son’s defection to the BJP.
