Guwahati, Aug 19: A 40-year-old head teacher, Jahir Uddin, has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly forcing a minor student to watch pornographic content on his mobile phone.

The incident occurred on August 12 at a government school in Karimganj district, but was reported to the police on Friday after local residents gathered at the school, demanding justice and causing destruction of property.

The police have registered a case against the absconding teacher and suspect that the matter was initially attempted to be resolved locally between the two parties. A suo motu complaint has also been lodged for the destruction of government property, including books, benches, and cupboards.

Local residents staged a protest, demanding the school’s closure and the teacher’s arrest. The protesters blocked the road but later cleared it after intervention from senior police officers and the district administration. The police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
