Agartala, August 19, 2024: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu voiced deep concern over the safety of women in society during a heartfelt speech on Monday urging men to ensure that women can live free from violence and discrimination. Speaking at a program titled ‘Rakhi for Soldiers,’ held at Raj Bhavan in Agartala, the Governor emphasized that Rakhi should be seen not just as a festival but as a call for action.
“Rakhi is more than a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters,” Governor Nallu remarked. “It is a reminder to society that we must take concrete steps to protect and empower women. The safety and dignity of women should be a top priority, and we must all work together to build a society where women can thrive without fear.”
The Governor’s comments come amid growing concerns over the increasing incidents of violence and harassment against women. Expressing his displeasure over the alarming rise in such cases, Nallu highlighted the pressing need to address these issues, stating, “Atrocities against women have become far too common in contemporary times. This poses a grave threat to the very fabric of our society.”
During his address, Governor Nallu appealed to the public to take responsibility for creating an environment where women are treated with respect and given equal opportunities. “We must ensure that every woman has the right to live without fear, and that begins with how we treat them in our daily lives. It is time to come together as a society to make a change,” he urged.
The ‘Rakhi for Soldiers’ event was organized by the Samskruti Foundation and featured the participation of several women’s groups. Eminent Rabindra Sangeet singer Tithi Debbarman was the first to tie a Rakhi on the Governor’s wrist, followed by sisters from the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris, and students from institutions including Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Bhavan’s College, and Tripureshwari Vidyamandir. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, the women also tied Rakhis on the wrists of CRPF personnel present at the event, reinforcing the message of protection and brotherhood.
As the festival of Raksha Bandhan continues to symbolize the bond of love between brothers and sisters, Governor Nallu’s remarks serve as a powerful reminder that this bond also carries a social responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of women across the nation.
