Guwahati, August 28: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has demanded 10% reservation for Muslims in Assam, citing their backward and economically weaker status.
Aminul Islam, AIUDF MLA, disputed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s claims on Muslim population figures, stating that the actual numbers are higher than reported.
Islam also condemned the recent Dhing gang rape incident and alleged that the Assam government is covering up facts and selectively highlighting cases with Muslim accused.
The AIUDF has accused the BJP-led Assam government of trying to conceal facts in the Dhing gang rape case, where one accused was killed, and has demanded justice for the victims.
The incident has sparked outrage, with locals demanding swift action against the perpetrators. The police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case.
The incident comes amid nationwide protests over the murder and alleged sexual assault of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata, highlighting concerns over women’s safety and justice.
