A low-pressure system moving northwestward towards West Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms over East India this weekend, according to the latest weather forecast.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim can expect heavy rainfall.
Rainfall amounts exceeding 200 mm are forecasted for West Bengal by Saturday, with up to 100 mm of rain in 24 hours possible in Jharkhand on Sunday.
This system could intensify into a depression by late Saturday, leading to further heavy rainfall in the region.
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain cooler than average across much of Northwest and Central India, excluding the West Himalayan region, for the next several days. East India will experience cooler temperatures from Saturday.
