Mizoram is facing severe shortages of fuel and essential commodities due to the deplorable condition of National Highway-306/06, the state’s lifeline.
The Mizoram Oil Tanker Drivers’ Association (MOTDA) and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram (PETUM) have announced a halt to all oil tanker operations in the state, effective Tuesday, September 17, citing hazardous road conditions.
The poor infrastructure has resulted in increased transportation costs for petrol and diesel, as several tankers require repairs. The situation has led to fuel shortages at oil stations, with several tankers stranded on the highway.
The move by the MOTDA and PETUM prioritizes the safety of truck and tanker drivers and the general public.
In addition to fuel shortages, Mizoram is also facing a scarcity of various grocery items, exacerbating the crisis.
The state government is under pressure to address the infrastructure issues and restore the supply chain to mitigate the shortages.
