In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Saitual district police seized heroin valued at over ₹17 lakhs from a Myanmar national on September 13.
The seizure occurred during a routine check by the Saitual Police Station team at Keifang Dawrkawn, where a public carrier, a Sumo vehicle with registration number MZ01L-2167, was intercepted en route from Champhai to Aizawl. Upon inspection, 592.57 grams of heroin, concealed in 50 soap cases, were found, with an estimated market value of ₹17,76,000.
The narcotics were in the possession of Ni Dun Lian, a 41-year-old resident of Ngailan Village, Myanmar, who was a passenger in the vehicle. A case has been registered under Saitual Police Station Case No. 47/2024, invoking Section 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act, and Section 14 of the Foreigner Act.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the broader smuggling network behind the seizure, aiming to dismantle the drug trafficking operation and bring those responsible to justice.
