Agartala, September 23, 2024: Tripura Chief Minister and Education Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday addressing the annual general meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (Tripura branch) criticized the adverse effects of foreign and narrow-minded education policies imposed during British rule and continued post-independence. According to Dr. Saha, these policies severely damaged the country’s education system, impacting generations of students.

“Foreign and narrow-minded education policies during British rule and post-independence caused great suffering to our education system. Today, however, teachers and professors, inspired by nationalist ideals, are playing a pivotal role in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” Dr. Saha remarked during the event.

He stressed the significance of the New Education Policy (NEP) and urged for its thorough implementation to reform the system. Dr. Saha expressed his gratitude to educators, stating that they play a critical role in shaping society. “Teachers are influencers and respected figures. They are essential in society’s development, and the government stands with them,” he added.

Dr. Saha also pointed out the staffing challenges in the education sector, revealing that out of 992 sanctioned posts for college professors, 289 remain vacant. He assured that the government is actively working to fill these vacancies.

Additionally, Dr. Saha criticized left-wing ideologies, accusing them of undermining education during the 1970s. “The left regime lacked nationalist thinking. Their policies, particularly during the 1970s, discouraged students from attending schools and colleges, thus harming entire generations,” he said.

More than 600 delegates representing the galaxy of higher education institutions were part of this grand event.

Mahendra Kapoor, Organising Secretary, ABRSM, New Delhi and Prof. Arobindo Mahato, Central University, Coordinator, ABRSM were present as Guest of Honor. Dr. Arjun Gope, President ABRSM Tripura (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha) presided over the meeting.
