Assam: Five Individuals Injured In Head-On Collision On National Highway 315

A devastating road accident occurred earlier today on National Highway 315, near Ledo Tirap Colliery in the Margherita sub-division of Tinsukia district. A Suzuki Wagonr traveling from Jagun to Margherita collided head-on with a Mahindra XUV heading from Ledo towards Colliery. The impact of the collision left five individuals with serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Mahindra XUV, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, swerved into the opposite lane, causing the crash. Among those injured was Prabhat Gogoi, also known as Papu, son of Prafulla Gogoi, a resident of Margherita’s Block Teenali Jaya Nagar. Gogoi was on his way home from Lekhapani when the incident occurred.

The injured individuals were initially taken to Margherita Civil Hospital but were later referred to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment due to the severity of their conditions. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and further details are awaited.

This incident highlights the alarming rate of road accidents worldwide, with approximately 1.19 million people dying each year as a result of road traffic crashes. The World Health Organization emphasizes that road traffic injuries can be prevented through safe system approaches, including safe roads and roadsides, safe speeds, safe vehicles, and safe road users.

The police are investigating the accident, and charges may be filed against the driver of the Mahindra XUV if found guilty of driving under the influence.
