Shillong, Oct 15: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh announced on Monday that the state government is making steady progress in establishing two new medical colleges – Shillong Medical College and Tura Medical College.

Lyngdoh stated that Shillong Medical College is expected to be institutionalized by 2025-26, with the clearance of service rules currently underway in the personnel department. An application for affiliation with North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is also being processed.

Regarding Tura Medical College, the minister confirmed that construction work is progressing rapidly. The government aims to provide better healthcare facilities and address the state’s medical manpower shortage through these new institutions.

Once completed, Tura Medical College will have a 500-patient capacity and accommodate 100 students. The project’s completion will significantly boost Meghalaya’s healthcare infrastructure and create employment opportunities for local youths.
