Two Meitei houses were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in Nungkhal village, Jiribam district, on Saturday night, escalating tensions in the area. The incident occurred just a day after suspected Kuki militants attacked the Borobekera police station and burned three other Meitei homes.

According to Jiribam Superintendent of Police (SP) Robinson, the attack took place at around 10:30 pm and included the burning of one abandoned house. “The district police, along with CRPF personnel, responded promptly to the scene and rescued L. Samerendra, the owner of one of the houses. He is now under the safe custody of the Jiribam police station,” said SP Robinson.

Samerendra reported that about eight armed individuals, speaking Hmar language, set fire to two houses on his rubber farm, where he had employed Bengali laborers.

The police, along with CRPF forces, conducted search operations in strategic areas of Jiribam following the incident, but no arrests were made, and no weapons were seized. A case has been registered at Jiribam police station, and further investigations are underway.
