Guwahati, Oct 22: In a disturbing discovery, the skeletal remains of 67-year-old Purnima Dey were found inside her Jyotikuchi area residence, where her son continues to live.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Padmanabh Baruah, Dey’s elder brother visited her home on Sunday after losing contact for several months. He alerted authorities upon finding the remains.
Police investigation, assisted by a forensic team, suggests Dey died approximately four months ago. Her son, who has mental health issues, claimed he didn’t report her death due to lack of local family members to perform cremation rituals.
“Initial findings indicate no foul play, pointing to natural death,” Baruah said. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances.
The incident has raised concerns about mental health support and social isolation in the community. Authorities are working to provide necessary assistance to Dey’s son.
