A ferry carrying approximately 200 passengers, 50 two-wheelers, and two four-wheelers became stranded in the Subansiri River on Monday while traveling from Majuli to Bihpuria in Assam. The incident occurred due to a sudden drop in water levels, rendering the ferry immobile.
The ferry had departed from Senimora ghat in Majuli and was headed to Bhalukaguri ghat in Lakhimpur district’s Bihpuria when it encountered difficulties. Authorities are currently assessing the situation to provide assistance and ensure the safe retrieval of passengers and vehicles.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar incident last month, where a passenger ferry, SB Chandan, became stranded in the Brahmaputra River while traveling from Nimatighat to Kamalabari. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched rescue operations, ensuring the safety of all onboard.
Local authorities and emergency services are working to rescue the stranded passengers and retrieve the vehicles. The situation is being closely monitored to prevent any further complications.
