In a significant development, security forces in Tripura’s Sabroom area have apprehended five individuals, including two Bangladeshi nationals, for illegally crossing the international border. According to police, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel noticed the group attempting to cross into India at Jalkumba village, leading to their arrest.
Sabroom Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar confirmed that the five individuals consisted of three Indians and two Bangladeshi nationals. An FIR has been filed at Sabroom police station in connection with the incident.
It was revealed that the three Indian nationals had traveled to Bangladesh to visit a close relative but became stranded due to regional unrest. As conditions improved, the group attempted to return to Sabroom, but were apprehended by the authorities.
The BSF has been vigilant in guarding India’s borders, particularly in the northeastern region, where the force has been effective in checking infiltrations, reducing smuggling, and curbing contraband. This incident highlights the importance of border security and the need for continued vigilance to prevent illegal crossings.
The arrested individuals are currently being held by the Sabroom police, and further investigations are underway.
