Ten Kuki-Zo legislators in Manipur have accused Chief Minister N. Biren Singh of providing false information and misleading the Supreme Court of India regarding his efforts to address the ongoing violence in the state. In a joint statement, the legislators condemned recent claims made in court, stating that Singh has not engaged with them in any peace efforts.

The statement, signed by all 10 Kuki-Zo representatives, addressed remarks made by the Solicitor General of India on November 8, 2024, during a Supreme Court hearing. “The ten MLAs have learned that during the Supreme Court hearing…the Solicitor General of India submitted that ‘the Chief Minister is meeting all Kuki MLAs and trying to de-escalate the situation to bring peace,’” the statement read, adding, “this submission is a blatant lie and amounts to misleading the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.”

The legislators stated that they have not met with Chief Minister Singh since violence erupted in Manipur on May 3 last year and emphasized they have no intention of doing so. They went on to accuse Singh of orchestrating the violence, calling him the “mastermind” behind the conflict. They also criticized the Solicitor General’s statement to the Supreme Court, accusing him of not verifying facts before presenting arguments.

In addition to these allegations, the legislators condemned the recent killing of a woman in Jiribam district, blaming Meitei militias for the incident despite heavy security force deployment in the area. The incident has further fueled tensions, as the violence in Manipur shows little sign of abating.
