Imphal, Nov 23: The Manipur government has pledged firm action to address ongoing violence in the state, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking over the probe into recent civilian killings.
Kuldiep Singh, the Security Advisor to the Manipur Government, confirmed on Friday that three major cases involving civilian deaths have been transferred to the NIA for further investigation. “NIA is now handling these cases, and they will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” Singh stated. He also assured that the last rites for the nine victims of the violence were conducted peacefully, with security forces overseeing the process.
Singh emphasized that the security forces, including the Army, Assam Rifles, and Border Security Forces (BSF), are working together to restore peace and maintain order in the region. “The combined efforts of the security forces are addressing the situation effectively,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the violence, acknowledging the public’s right to protest the killings of innocent civilians. However, he condemned the actions of certain groups who, he claimed, exploited the unrest to loot and destroy property, including ministers’ homes. “We support genuine protests, but some elements have used this as an opportunity to cause damage. We have identified the culprits through CCTV footage and will take strict legal action,” Singh declared, expressing regret over the ongoing disturbances.
