An autopsy report has revealed harrowing details about the deaths of three members of a Meitei family allegedly abducted by armed militants during a clash with security forces in Jiribam district on November 11. The report confirmed that the victims were shot multiple times before their bodies were dumped in a river.

Among the victims was a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to his chin, with his right eye missing. The autopsy noted signs of blunt force trauma, including lacerations on the body, which was severely decomposed and infested with maggots. The boy’s mother had two gunshot wounds on her back, while his grandmother sustained five bullet wounds.

The family’s decomposed bodies were discovered floating in a river in Assam’s Lakhipur district on separate days—November 15, 17, and 18. Investigators believe the victims were killed the same day they were abducted.

A photograph of the victims, reportedly taken after their abduction, circulated on social media on November 12. The image, showing the family huddled in a forested area, was first shared on Facebook. Authorities are still working to trace the origin of the account.

The case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 18, and an NIA team has since visited Jiribam. The autopsies were conducted at Silchar Medical College in Assam. The killings have sparked outrage in the state.
