Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced on Tuesday that extensive search operations are underway to apprehend those responsible for the recent killings of three women and three children in Jiribam district. Although no arrests have been made, several suspects have been identified, and the Chief Minister assured that operations would continue until justice is served.
At a press conference held at the CM Secretariat, Biren Singh revealed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over three critical cases tied to recent violence in the state. Among these is a November 11 attack in Borobekra, where militants burned homes, killed two civilians, and abducted six others, who were later murdered. Another case involves the brutal killing of 31-year-old Zosangkim, a Hmar woman, in Jiribam on November 7.
Biren Singh also highlighted ongoing efforts to locate Laishram Kamalbabu, who went missing near Leimakhong Army camp. A zero FIR has been filed to expedite the investigation.
The Chief Minister reiterated his call for the removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from regions where it was reimposed amidst ethnic violence, stressing that the move would help restore peace and accountability. Biren Singh emphasized that national and international leaders, along with the Home Ministry, have been apprised of Manipur’s complex challenges, including external influences.
