Guwahati, Dec 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said he is prepared to impose a beef ban in the state if the Congress party formally requests it. Sarma’s statement was made in response to allegations that the BJP distributed beef to influence voters in the Samaguri constituency, which had been under Congress control for 25 years.
The Chief Minister challenged Congress state president Bhupen Kumar Borah to send him an official request for the ban. Sarma also criticized Congress for its loss in Samaguri by a margin of 27,000 votes, calling the defeat a bigger blow to the opposition party than a victory for the BJP.
These remarks were made following a BJP meeting, where Sarma expressed satisfaction that the opposition had raised the issue.
