Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that more than 80% of households in the state have been provided with tap water connections under the Central government’s Har Ghar Jal initiative. The initiative, launched as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019, aims to supply 55 liters of tap water per capita per day to every rural household by 2024.
The Chief Minister shared this milestone during a meeting with Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, in New Delhi. Sarma requested further support from the Union Minister to help achieve the full implementation of the scheme across the state. Patil assured Sarma of the Ministry’s continued assistance in ensuring the initiative’s saturation.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, Chief Secretary of Assam, Ravi Kota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti also attended the meeting.
Sarma expressed his commitment to fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of providing tap water to every household in the state, emphasizing the significant progress made under the Har Ghar Jal scheme. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also met with Prime Minister Modi to discuss ongoing development issues in Assam.
