In a significant operation, Assam Rifles, along with the Customs Preventive Force (Mizoram), seized 9,440 kilograms of illegal areca nuts in the Chhungte area of Champhai district, Mizoram, on December 7, 2024. The contraband, valued at Rs 66.08 lakhs, was recovered as part of a larger effort to combat illegal trade and smuggling activities in the region.
The seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle cross-border smuggling, particularly along Mizoram’s border with Myanmar. Authorities have vowed to continue their strict actions against the trafficking of illegal goods in the state.
