Gangtok, Dec 9: The Tour de Sikkim 2024 came to a close on Sunday with a lively and colorful ceremony in Gangtok. Participants completed a challenging 212-kilometer journey along the historic Silk Route, marking the end of the three-day cycling expedition. Riders were warmly welcomed with traditional Khadas and presented medals for their successful completion of the event.
Sudesh Kumar Subba, Advisor for Tourism and Civil Aviation, congratulated the cyclists for their perseverance and highlighted the growing appeal of adventure tourism in Sikkim. He also acknowledged the inspiring participation of an elderly couple from Uttarakhand, who traveled a long distance to join the event.
The closing ceremony was attended by Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, MLA and Advisor for Urban Development, CS Rao, Principal Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, and Prakash Chettri, Secretary of T&CAD. The event featured cultural performances, and mementos were presented to key contributors, including the Cycling Association of Sikkim and local support teams.
The event, which took place in freezing temperatures, saw 40 riders from Bhutan and across India, reinforcing Sikkim’s growing reputation as a top destination for eco-tourism and adventure sports.
