Agartala, December 9, 2024: The Tripura’s CITU Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee held a mass deputation with the Labor Department in Agartala city on Monday demanding 11 points to address the grievances of workers. The committee members organized a protest march in the capital city before submitting their memorandum.

CITU State General Secretary and former MP Shankar Prasad Datta voiced strong criticism against the ruling party in the state and the BJP government at the center. “The workers are continuously burdened by the policies of the government. Due to the reduction in wages, many have lost their jobs, and several brick kilns in the state have closed down. People are desperate in search of work and are living in poverty,” Datta stated.

Highlighting the plight of tea garden workers, Datta added, “The tea garden workers are not receiving fair wages. This is one of the crucial points in our 11-point deputation to the Labor Department.”

The 11-point deputation includes demands to curb the price hike, simplify construction projects, provide health protection equipment to sanitation workers, and ensure a pension of Rs 10,000 for all workers above the age of sixty.

“The government needs to take immediate action on these demands to alleviate the suffering of the workers,” Dutta emphasized. The protest march and deputation are part of a larger movement to secure the rights and welfare of workers in the state.

The CITU Sadar Sub-Division Committee’s proactive stance highlights the urgent need for government intervention to address the economic and social challenges faced by workers. The Labor Department is expected to review the deputation and respond to the demands put forth by the committee.
