Thousands of people are participating in a mass protest rally against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA), and the ongoing killing of civilians by terrorists. Organized on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the rally began at Thau Ground, Imphal, and is set to conclude at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

The event is jointly organized by the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), and the Manipur Students Federation (MSF).

The rally serves as a unified call for the repeal of AFSPA, which many argue perpetuates human rights violations by granting sweeping powers to the armed forces. Protesters are also demanding an immediate end to terrorist violence that has claimed countless civilian lives in the region. The organisers emphasized that the continuation of AFSPA has only deepened distrust among communities and perpetuated unrest.
