Agartala, December 10, 2024: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Agartala on December 20 to attend the 72nd edition of the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary session. This marks the first time Tripura will host the prestigious meeting, which will see participation from Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Governors of all Northeastern states.

Speaking to the media during an inspection at Ujjayanta Palace, which will host parts of the session, Dr. Saha said, “The 72nd NEC plenary session is a significant event, and as the chairman of NEC, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be attending. Policy decisions regarding the region’s development will be discussed and finalized during this crucial meeting.”

The Chief Minister also reviewed accommodation and logistical arrangements for the dignitaries attending the session. He added, “Preparations are in full swing. A meeting of the North East Space Application Centre will also be held on the same day.”

On being asked about recent threats reportedly issued by Bangladesh, Dr. Saha dismissed them, stating, “I have already spoken on the matter. Let them bark. Clouds that thunder seldom bring rain.”

Dr. Saha also touched upon his recent meeting with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son in Mumbai, where he invited them to explore investment opportunities in Tripura. “They have assured me that a team from Reliance Industries will visit Tripura to assess its investment potential. If a major group like Reliance invests here, it will significantly address the unemployment issue,” he said.

The NEC plenary session is expected to focus on developmental policies for the Northeastern region, underscoring Tripura’s growing prominence in the region.
