Guwahati, Dec 11: A protest was held in Guwahati, Assam, on International Human Rights Day, demanding action against the alleged atrocities on Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. The demonstration, organized by Lok Jagaran Manch, Assam, took place in front of the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh, where protesters raised concerns about the ongoing violence and discrimination against minorities in the neighboring country.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, addressed to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, accusing both Islamic extremists and the Bangladesh government of committing violence, including killings, looting, arson, and sexual abuse against Hindus and other minorities.
Before submitting the memorandum, a meeting was held at Navagraha Kali Mandir in Silpukhuri, where speakers, including Advocate Bijon Mahajan, called for urgent measures to protect the oppressed communities. The protesters then marched through Silpukhuri and staged a sit-in outside the Assistant High Commission.
The memorandum urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the rights and dignity of Hindus and other minorities, free from violence and government or extremist interference. It also condemned the arrest of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, describing it as unjust and undemocratic.
