Guwahati, Dec 13: Bomb threats were reported at the Guwahati railway station and on the Gauhati University campus on Thursday, prompting immediate security measures by local authorities.
The Meghalaya Police Control Room in Shillong received a call warning of a potential bomb at the Guwahati railway station. Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah confirmed that precautionary measures were quickly implemented, but no suspicious objects were found after a joint search operation with Meghalaya Police, the Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Meanwhile, Assam Police received an email warning about bombs at seven locations on the Gauhati University campus. Although the email did not explicitly mention bombs, it urged the police to take precautionary steps. A thorough sanitization of the campus was conducted, but no threats were identified.
Authorities have dismissed any immediate link to banned groups like ULFA(I) and are continuing their investigation into the source of the threats.
