Gangtok, Dec 13: The Government of Sikkim has entered into a partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office for India to enhance Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in the state. The collaboration, spearheaded by the Planning and Development Department and the Sikkim INSPIRES initiative, focuses on addressing the state’s low Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 1.1.
Through this partnership, WHO will assist in areas such as building healthcare providers’ capacity, conducting research on the reproductive health needs of the population, and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems for SRH programs. The collaboration also includes launching Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns to raise awareness about infertility and other reproductive health issues.
This initiative underscores Sikkim’s commitment to improving health outcomes, ensuring universal access to reproductive health services, and tackling infertility challenges in the state.
