A 55-year-old man was injured in a rhino attack near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district on Monday morning. The victim, Krishna Das, was attacked by a one-horned rhinoceros that had wandered out of the sanctuary.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in the Jhargaon area, located about 4 km from the sanctuary, according to Pranjal Baruah, Forest Range Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. Das sustained severe injuries to his right leg and was immediately taken to Jhargaon Primary Health Center (PHC). Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
A forest team has been dispatched to the area to track and safely return the stray rhino to the sanctuary. Local villagers are assisting in the effort to locate the animal.
This incident follows a fatal rhino attack on September 30, when a motorcyclist, Saddam Hussain (37), was killed near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. Hussain, a resident of Sonapur Kachutali in Kamrup district, was attacked while riding his motorcycle near the Haduk Bridge.
