Agartala, December 18, 2024: In a remarkable celebration of India’s First Cycling Day, the streets of Agartala came alive with energy and enthusiasm as over 50 cyclists participated in a 3 km rally, promoting fitness and environmental preservation. The event, held under the visionary leadership of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, echoed the powerful message: “Pedal 4 Fitness and a Pollution-Free Future.”
Organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), and the Government of India (Tripura), the rally was a collaborative effort with Gopesh Debnath, Bicycle Mayor of Agartala, and the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation. The event commenced from the iconic Ujjayanta Palace, a historic landmark that served as the perfect backdrop for this inspiring initiative.
The rally was flagged off by celebrated gymnast Dipa Karmakar, accompanied by the Director of the Sports Department and other dignitaries from SAI. Addressing the participants, Karmakar highlighted the significance of cycling in promoting health and sustainability. “Cycling is not just a mode of transport; it’s a lifestyle that fosters physical fitness and reduces pollution. I urge everyone to adopt cycling as a step towards a greener planet,” she said.
Participants from diverse backgrounds showcased their commitment to sustainable living, underscoring the rally’s success in uniting the community. The Agartala Cycloholics Foundation played a key role in organizing the event, furthering its mission to cultivate a robust cycling culture in Tripura.
