Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, praised the rapid transformation of the Northeast under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Scindia highlighted the region’s infrastructural advancements and significant economic growth, positioning it as a key driver of India’s overall development.

In an interview with ANI, Scindia acknowledged the longstanding challenges in Manipur, clarifying that the situation has persisted for 25 to 40 years, not just in recent times. He emphasized that the central and state governments are actively engaged in resolving the issues through dialogue with all factions involved.

Scindia also noted the impressive reduction in conflict across the Northeast, stating that violent incidents have dropped by 80% over the past decade. He highlighted the increasing number of insurgents who have laid down their arms and joined the mainstream, contributing to the region’s stability and growth.

The Minister pointed to major improvements in the region’s infrastructure, including the construction of over 16,000 kilometers of national highways and significant expansions in rail, air, and water transport. Scindia revealed that railway track construction has increased significantly, with the pace now averaging over 19 kilometers per month. Additionally, the number of airports in the Northeast has grown from nine to 17, with air traffic more than doubling since 2014.

Scindia also announced the establishment of India’s second semiconductor factory in Assam, a major industrial development in the region. The factory, set to be built in partnership with the Tata Group, represents an investment of 27,000 crores and is expected to boost the Northeast’s technological and industrial capacity.

Emphasizing the region’s rapid growth, Scindia noted that while India’s national growth rate is around 6.5% to 7.5% annually, the Northeast’s growth is between 9.5% and 11%. He reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s vision of the Northeast becoming India’s growth engine, a vision that is already taking shape.

Scindia also addressed the government’s infrastructure efforts along the northeastern border with China, highlighting the focus on developing “vibrant villages” in border areas. He stated that over 700 ministerial visits have been made to the Northeast, demonstrating the government’s commitment to its development.

On the proposed “One Nation, One Election” bill, Scindia explained that it reflects the public’s desire for a more efficient electoral process. He praised Prime Minister Modi for his leadership, stating that the government’s reforms are paving the way for India’s continued growth and global leadership.
