Gangtok, Dec 18: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of KB Limboo Government Senior Secondary School in Sribadam on Wednesday.
The event, held at the school playground, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, MN Sherpa, Education Minister Raju Basnet, local MLAs, district officials, teachers, and students.
In his address, CM Tamang emphasized the transformative power of education and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enhancing the education sector. He also highlighted several key state initiatives, such as the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship Scheme and the Chief Minister Education Assistance Scheme, aimed at supporting higher education and medical care for deserving students.
Additionally, CM Tamang urged the Rinchenpong Constituency to prioritize development and tourism, suggesting the organization of a month-long tourism festival in Soreng district, with full government support.
During the event, the Chief Minister was honored with appreciation letters from the school, the School Management Committee, and the Soreng District Zilla Panchayat. MLA Erung Tenzing Lepcha of Rinchenpong was also felicitated for his ongoing contributions to the community.
The celebrations featured various cultural performances and concluded with the final match of the Men’s Open Football Tournament, where Kaluk PS defeated CSA Chakung 2-1.
Earlier, CM Tamang was given a Guard of Honour by the IRBn and Police Department. In addition to the Platinum Jubilee festivities, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Mentorship Programme at the school, aimed at enhancing the academic performance of Class X students ahead of their board exams. He also inaugurated the “Phuntsok Choeling Mani Lhakhang” at Sribadam, in the presence of VV Chogtrul Thekchog Rinpoche, prior to attending the celebrations at the school.
