Agartala, Dec 18: Tripura CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has alleged that the BJP’s introduction of the One Nation One Election (ONOE) bills in Parliament is a “political game” aimed at deceiving the public.

Chowdhury claimed that the BJP knows it lacks the required numbers to pass the bills, but is pushing forward with the legislation to launch a campaign blaming the opposition for its potential failure.

The ONOE bills, which aim to facilitate simultaneous elections, were introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday after a heated debate, with the opposition labeling the move as “dictatorial”. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal defended the legislation, stating that it wouldn’t infringe on state powers.

Chowdhury also criticized the BJP’s claim that holding simultaneous elections would save money, pointing out that it is the BJP itself that spends vast amounts of money to win elections.
