Agartala, December 18, 2024. In a high-level review of border security ahead of the 72nd NEC Plenary Session, Tripura’s Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha (IAS), Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan (IPS) and Ravi Gandhi, Additional Director General of BSF Eastern Command, Kolkata conducted an extensive visit to BSF Ambassa and surrounding areas in Dhalai district. They also inspected the Border Outpost (BOP) at N.C. Nagar in Sepahijala district, accompanied by Ashwani Kumar Sharma, IG Tripura Frontier BSF.

The visit focused on assessing the prevailing security situation and operational readiness along the India-Bangladesh border. Key issues discussed included effective border management strategies, including round-the-clock surveillance by BSF, joint operations with police and intelligence agencies to combat trans-border crimes, action against touts facilitating illegal migration, and the ongoing destruction drive against cannabis cultivation.

Additional topics of discussion included ensuring the security of border populations residing ahead of the fence, relocation plans for such villages, road connectivity improvements, electricity supply to BOPs, and resolution of pending land acquisition cases.

At BOP N.C. Nagar, the delegation received a detailed briefing from DIG SHQ BSF Gokulnagar on the current security scenario and additional measures implemented to enhance border vigilance.

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and DGP Amitabh Ranjan commended the relentless efforts of BSF personnel operating in challenging terrain to safeguard the international border. “The dedication of the BSF troops in maintaining border security is exemplary,” remarked Sinha.

The visit reinforced the joint commitment of the BSF and state authorities to strengthen border security and enhance coordination for safeguarding the Tripura-Bangladesh border.
