Agartala, December 20, 2024: Six Bangladeshi nationals, including two minors, were detained by Tripura Police late on the night of December 19 from Subhas Park in Khowai district. The group reportedly entered India illegally and was intercepted following a tip-off.

Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station, Subir Malakar, confirmed the development, stating, “We received information about six Bangladeshi nationals staying at Roy Guest House near Khowai District Hospital. Acting on the tip-off, our personnel conducted an operation and interrogated the group. During preliminary questioning, they provided contradictory statements and failed to produce valid identification documents. They were subsequently taken to the police station for further interrogation.”

During questioning, the detainees admitted to entering India illegally a few days ago and traveling to New Delhi before returning to Tripura. According to Malakar, their intent was to exfiltrate back to Bangladesh.

The detainees have been identified as Md Kabir (37), Tania Begum (35), Md Sakib (6), Sahida (5), Mumin (23), and Ayesa Khatun (70). Police also recovered Indian identification cards allegedly obtained illegally.

“They claimed to have entered India in search of work,” Malakar added. Authorities are investigating the matter further to ascertain the circumstances of their illegal entry and activities in the country.
