Three Arrested For Threatening Facebook Posts Against Manipur CM

Imphal, Dec 20: The Manipur Police have arrested three administrators of the Facebook page Manipur News Group 2024 for allegedly approving and publishing threatening and abusive content targeting Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh and his cabinet.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ningombam Dingku (22) of Lairongthel Mayai Leikai in Thoubal District, Malemnganba Laithangbam (21) of Kwakeithel Makha Leikai in Imphal West District, and Thongam Romen (39) of Keirak Mayai Leikai in Kakching District. They were produced before the Duty Magistrate in Imphal West and remanded to five days of police custody for further investigation.

The arrests followed a post made in the Facebook group by a user under the pseudonym Punshi Meenai. The post allegedly incited violent action against the Chief Minister and his cabinet members. Authorities stated that the administrators approved and published the post, prompting their detention.

The police are actively investigating the identity of the user behind the Punshi Meenai account and the motives behind the inflammatory post. Officials are also assessing the potential consequences of the content.
