In a bid to strengthen security, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati, Amitabh Basumatary, has issued a prohibitory order that prohibits protests, rallies, and any gatherings within a one-kilometre radius of Raj Bhawan, the official residence of the Governor of Assam. The order, effective immediately, will remain in place for two months or until further notice.
The order comes in response to concerns about potential security threats and disturbances in the area, which could disrupt the sanctity of this high-security zone. It aims to ensure a secure environment for governmental functions.
Key restrictions outlined in the order include:
1. Ban on Gatherings: Any assembly of more than five persons, including protests, demonstrations, or rallies, is prohibited within the restricted area unless prior approval is obtained.
2. Movement Restrictions: Unauthorized movement of individuals or vehicles within the zone is banned.
3. Noise Control: The use of loudspeakers, fireworks, or any noise-making devices requires prior permission in the restricted zone.
4. Construction Restrictions: Construction or other potentially disruptive activities are prohibited without prior approval.
Violators of the order will be prosecuted under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Individuals affected by the order can file objections for its cancellation or modification before the court.
