Agartala, December 23, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed great satisfaction over the successful rehabilitation of 38,000 Bru-community Reang tribes, attributing this achievement to the efforts of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shah made these remarks while inaugurating various projects in Dhalai district of Tripura on Sunday.

As per the agreement signed in 2020, arrangements have been made for the rehabilitation of Brus in Haduk Lau Para of Dhalai district. During his visit, Shah reviewed the implementation of the agreement, accompanied by state Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, East Tripura Lok Sabha MP Kriti Singh, Dhalai district’s DM Saju Vaheed A and other officials.

On Sunday, Shah inaugurated six new projects in Kulai, Dhalai district, and laid the foundation stone for seven more projects. The total cost of these 13 projects is Rs 668.39 crore. Shah expressed his satisfaction with the development of the Bru tribal community in various aspects of the state.

“For 25 years, the Bru tribals lived in great difficulty. Many families had to live together under one shed without toilet facilities, education, or proper food and drinking water. During the rule of the Communist Party, no attention was paid to the tribals, and they lagged behind in development,” Shah stated. He highlighted that the BJP government, with the help of the central government, made arrangements for the accommodation of 40,000 Bru refugees, providing them with education, income generation facilities, clean drinking water, and special facilities for women.

The current BJP government has focused on the state’s development through various schemes. Bru refugees, who had been living in dire conditions since 1998, have been given shelter in 11 villages at a cost of Rs 900 crore. Shah mentioned this during his speech at the Bru resettlement area.

Bru refugees will receive a grant of Rs 5,000 for 24 months from the Government of India. Shah also noted that various schemes, including education and clean drinking water, are available for the Bru tribes. He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the lives of the Bru community.

Reflecting on his first visit to Tripura in 2017 as BJP president, Shah recalled, “At that time, only six people were present in my meeting, and there were only 11 party members in the state. Today, I am very happy to see the development of Tripura.” He thanked Chief Minister Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and current MP Biplab Deb, and party workers for their efforts.

Since the BJP government came to power in Tripura, significant changes have taken place in the state. Clean drinking water has been provided in various areas, electricity has reached every house in remote areas, and measures have been taken to improve education. As a result, the literacy rate has increased. “This shows that when those who believe in democracy are given the responsibility of governance, this is how the country develops,” Shah remarked.

Addressing the people, Shah said, “Everyone has faith in the BJP. The foundation of the party was laid in the first five years after coming to power in this state, and now this party is moving forward under the leadership of Manik Saha.”

Shah concluded by expressing his satisfaction with the Bru rehabilitation efforts, stating, “Today, I visited the rehabilitation site of Bru refugees. After seeing their accommodation, I will return with a lot of satisfaction in my heart.”
