Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored the state government’s focus on education and infrastructure as part of the 12-day development campaign in Dibrugarh. Addressing the public on the final day of the initiative, CM Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving living standards and empowering citizens across the state.
During the event, the Chief Minister distributed benefits under various state schemes, including scooters to 2,593 students, bicycles to 10,270 students, and cash awards to 1,255 students under the Anundoram Barooah Merit Scholarship. Dibrugarh also received significant support through grants from the Finance, Disaster Management, and Industries and Commerce departments.
The development campaign, aimed at targeting specific communities, led to the distribution of 20 lakh new ration cards and scholarships to 48,673 students under the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Scholarship. Dibrugarh topped the list of scooter recipients, with over 1.09 lakh students benefitting statewide since the program’s launch.l
CM Sarma also highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which recommends establishing high schools every five kilometers. He announced that bicycles would be provided to all class IX students and emphasized the state’s annual investment of Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore in the education sector to improve infrastructure and support student growth.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Assam would attract more investments as development continues. He also stressed the introduction of modern academic disciplines like AI, robotics, and 3D technology, preparing students for future industries and job opportunities.
Additionally, Sarma reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects in Dibrugarh, including the construction of a sports complex funded by the NLCPR, which will feature an athletics zone, indoor stadium, swimming pool, and outdoor courts. He also inspected the progress of the police reserve site and other key initiatives, directing officials to ensure their timely completion and preparation for the Republic Day celebrations.
