The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Late Khul-Ngakpa Prem has declared a 24-hour total shutdown across the region, beginning at 6 PM on December 27 and ending at 6 PM on December 28. The protest is aimed at pressing the government to take action against police officials involved in the death of Laishram Prem and to demand the unconditional release of six village defense volunteers arrested in connection with the incident.
The JAC has urged local clubs, civil society organizations (CSOs), and Meira Paibis to extend their support to the shutdown. Essential services, however, will remain exempt from the protest.
The agitation stems from the December 14 incident where Laishram Prem was killed, and six individuals were detained by Thoubal District Commandos near Salungpham High School, Salungpham Maning Leikai, Salungpham Thongkhong. The JAC has expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction despite their repeated appeals for justice.
